HICSS features a number special speakers and special events as part of the conference program. These include a distinguished lecturer and plenary speakers, special task forces, advanced seminars, and tutorials.
The HICSS Distinguished Lecturer Series features truly outstanding leaders in computer science, information systems, and other computer-related fields. Distinguished Lecturers have been Nobel Laureates, National Medal of Science awardees, and winners of the Turing Award, McDowell Award, Goode Award, Piore Award, and Ekert-Mauchly Award. Several have been members of the National Academy of Science and National Academy of Engineering.
The HICSS-32 Distinguished Lecturer John Seely Brown is the Chief Scientist of Xerox Corporation and the Director of its Palo Alto Research Center (PARC).
A HICSS Plenary Speaker is chosen for individual accomplishment, expertise, and experience in important emerging topics that cut across the boundaries of our traditional disciplines. Recent speakers have introduced topics that have far-reaching implications for future developments in the system sciences.
This session is the latest in a continuing dialogue, chaired by Jay
F. Nunamaker, University of Arizona, and Ralph H. Sprague, Jr., University
of Hawaii. The HICSS-32 session will review the most up-to-date changes
in successful academic programs in information, library, and communication
sciences. Papers presented include the latest results developing from discussions
within various groups and task forces organized to gather information from
industry, government and education in order to meet the challenging demands
of the new century. These wide-ranging discussions focus on re-engineering
the educational process.
