Track: Knowledge Management Systems
Minitrack:
Knowledge Management Implementations and Other
--------------- Issues

Research into knowledge management, organizational memories, and organizational learning has been affected by investigations such as implementation aspects, system developments, or knowledge flows during a number of years. Therefore, a high maturity level of knowledge management research has been achieved. Levels of maturity have been seen through the last several years of KM papers at HICSS. However, organizational knowledge management initiatives are more and more faced with budget cuts and justification demands due to intense competition in today's business environments. The influences of the rapid pace of globalization and of the ongoing liberalization of national and international markets lead to the emergence of increased pressure on existing companies. Project managers of knowledge management initiatives like Chief Knowledge Officers need to justify their budgets and thus are in need of qualitative and quantitative evidence of the initiatives' success. This minitrack explores research issues around implementation of knowledge management systems and the strategies, methodologies, and anecdotes regarding KM initiatives. This mini-track will also serve as a "catch-all" for KM papers that are difficult to place across the other KM mini-tracks.

Topics and research areas include, but are not limited to:
* Theoretical frameworks for KM Implementation plans
* Methods for building and sustaining successful KM projects
* Designing knowledge strategy and operational plans
* Best Practices in KM Implementations - Strategy, Planning, Execution
* Case studies of knowledge management implementations and initiatives
* Impact of knowledge management strategy, organization, systems, culture, and other issues on knowledge management/organizational memory success
* Net Work - Creating and sustaining KM Networks
* Pitfalls and obstacles during KM Implementations
* Evaluating and chose the right KM technology
* Examining institutional knowledge cycles; Knowledge Value-added analysis (KVA); examining the value of knowledge deployed throughout core processe
* Connecting of KM with organizational processes
* Orientation of KM activities to organizational results -innovations, competitiveness, productivity
* Exploring the relation of KM with decision making
