Tutorial: Information Policy in Academia: What the College Professor
------------Needs to Know about Security, Privacy and Fair Use (half-day)
Leaders: Timothy J. Ellis and William Hafner

The tutorial will include both lecture and interactive learning experiences such as case analysis and discussion. The topics to be covered will include:
* Laws and other regulations that control the use of information in the education arena
* Security threats
* Privacy requirements and threats
* Practitioner-level security and privacy auditing
* Copyright laws and "Fair Use"

William Hafner (hafnerw@nova.edu)possesses a long career in industrial software development and management.. He has had senior positions for major computer and telecommunications companies and was a research scientist for the Department of Energy. He lead the developed large scale applications in databases, telecommunications, engineering and mathematical processing. Dr. Hafner's research interests are in the areas of privacy and security. He is especially interested in privacy representation languages, data governance, and federated identity management. Dr. Hafner is an Associate Professor in the Graduate School of Computer and Information Sciences at Nova Southeastern University in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida.

Timothy J. Ellis (ellist@nova.edu) brings a varied background to this discussion. He has 15 years experience in the health care and human services industry as both a therapist and administrator, is a retired U.S. Navy officer, and has 12 years experience as an educator in higher education. He has earned a Master of Arts degree in Rehabilitation Counseling, a Certificate of Advanced Graduate Study in Rehabilitation Administration, and a Philosophy Doctorate with a specialization in Computing Technology in Education. Dr. Ellis is an Associate Professor in the Graduate School of Computer and Information Sciences at Nova Southeastern University in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida.
