Tutorial: Digital trails: Extracting Intelligence from the Collective Interactions of Web and Mobile Users (Half-day Tutorial)
Leader:
Dave King

The Web offers a vast sea of data generated and recorded from sources like Web surfing and searching, as well as the interactions of participants at social Web sites. More recently, this sea has been augmented by the data generated by the location, movements, and interactions captured from mobile phones, GPS units, and sensor networks. This tutorial focuses on the use of various analytical techniques to extract collective intelligence from these digital trails. The techniques range from straightforward Web analytics, to various clustering and collaborative filtering techniques, to social network analysis used to understand patterns of interactions. The tutorial covers the application of these techniques for practical and research purposes and examines their potential misuse.
