Track:
Knowledge Management Systems
Minitrack: KM in a Multinational
Context
As the global economy continues to unfold, the objective of this
mini-track is to explore how knowledge management tools, systems,
and practices can be applied and customized to facilitate
knowledge flows and transfer in multinational contexts and in
multinational corporations. Various issues such as cross-cultural
differences, differing technological capabilities, extensive
differences in corporate policies and practices, different legal
and regulatory norms, mere linguistic differences, distinctive
political practices, and diverse understandings of KM approaches
and concepts are examples of barriers that can impede
organizations from fully capitalizing upon their intellectual
resources and thereby insure their competitiveness. In a knowledge
and globalized economy, the need to take in consideration
intercultural differences has become a priority for organizations
to fully exploit and leverage their intellectual assets across
borders. We believe that technology has an important enabling role
to play in overcoming cross-national impediments through the
astute use of KM systems, technologies, and practices.
