New Application Areas in Open Source Software: Use,
Development and Evaluation
Open Source Software is booming. Thousands of software project
administrators face challenges in coordinating technical
development of OSS, and developers and users face challenges in
evaluating the myriad of OSS projects. This mini-track will
explore issues in open source software development. Topics of
interest include: New kinds of open source software for Linux and
other platforms, applications of open source software in
education, methods for simplifying the development, maintenance,
and multi-platform portability in OSS, evaluation and comparison
of the technical characteristics and accessibility of different
open source projects. Of interest are also issues relating to
differences among different Linux distributions and Unix
derivatives.
